This is my story

When I was two years old I almost drowned.  As I reflect on the gift of healing, this is when it all began.

I went to a lake with my grandmother, mother, and older sister.  My grandmother took my sister and me into the lake to play, but far too soon I was brought back to my mother who lay on a blanket in the sand.  I was told my sister wanted to go into deeper water and I was too young and short to follow. They said they would come back for me.  How long was it?  I don’t know, except my mother fell asleep on the blanket and I was left to entertain myself.  I was bored and longing to play in the water.  Soon I decided to look for my sister and grandmother, so I walked to the water’s edge.  I did not hesitate, but waded into the gentle waves.  Soon the water was over my head, and I stood still trying to decide what to do next.  I was standing beside a woman.  I could see her knee and I arched my head, gazing through the clear liquid looking at the sky.  It was in that moment I saw Spirit surrounded in a golden light. 

What I did not know until later, was my mother was shaken awake, her arm and shoulder moved so violently that she opened her eyes prepared to scold the person who roused her.  But as she looked to the source, there was no one there.  She realized I was missing and began to scream.  It was at that moment the woman I stood next to raised me from the water.   My mother called the rescue a miracle. 

A gift of insight was begun that day, given by Spirit where I would dream and “see” beyond the sight of a child.  “Aunt Ettie is sick,”  I told my mother when I was four years.  She dismissed the comment.  Then the phone rang and my grandmother said Aunt Ettie had been taken to the hospital the night before.  

My youngest child was seriously ill.  I had seen a movie in which the heroine could heal with a touch. I thought it would be a wonderful gift to be able to heal in that way.  Perhaps it was possible.  Each time I hugged my child I thought the words, “Heal.”  From that the light of healing began to grow.  Classes to become a Reiki Master Teacher Practitioner followed. 

The day I almost drowned I was given a gift by Spirit.  Now I share this gift with others.
